I bet you didn’t wake up thinking:”I’m going to make myself a Birch Bark box”. Neither did I, but here we are scratching our head in the middle of the woods.
I better call an expert, until we get completely lost. Hey, Alex. Can you take over, please?!!
Hi guys. In order to make this product you will need birch bark, which I prepared in advance. Harvesting takes a certain period of time, when the birch gives the juice. There is a sign: when the wild rose bloomed and dandelion withered . Time to go.
So we have prepared the birch bark. Now we choose the one that we need. I chose the suitable 2 sheets, in the craft they are called “shirt”. The outer shirt its size is 35.5 cm (14 in) and the inner shirt is 34.7 cm (13.6 in), the one with less build – up and will be the outer part of the product.
We need two shirts to collect the cylinder. For this make a “castle”. We need a chisel for wood.
Clean the growths on the birch bark
The inner shirt is going face-to-face inside.
Cut out wooden parts for the cover and the bottom
For the top and bottom we need to make a “belt”
Disassemble, and on the front side (outer shirt) come up with an ornament. For this we need tools for embossing. Draw, measure, figure out a pattern in your head.
It worked! Next, we need to highlight the picture. I use artistic paint. Wipe it, put it back together. And here’s result.
Make holes for plating, I used an old pair of pliers with a flat punch.
Cut the tape width of 0.5 cm (0.1 in); sheath it; refine the lid, and make a pen. And here’s what we got!
Would you like a birch bark product of your own?!
Let’s be honest, most of you will never leave the house. Going Birch bark hunting into the woods is tiresome endeavour. Good thing Alex is selling these puppies on Etsy. There, I save you the trip (you couch potato)!
