The first time the words Emerald Isle ever appeared in print in reference to Ireland was in a poem by Belfast-born William Drennan, titled “When Erin First Rose.” This beautiful island has a lot to show, and Peter Meller told a wonderful story with his Emerald Isle Photography collection. After more than 10 years in Ireland he compiled quite a number of dream-like landscapes of this beautiful country. Prepare to be enchanted by its raw beauty.
Alas! for poor Erin that some are still seen,
Who would dye the grass red from their hatred to green;
Yet, oh! when you’re up, and they’re down, let them live,
Then yield them that mercy which they would not give.
Arm of Erin, be strong! but be gentle as brave;
And uplifted to strike, be still ready to save;
Let no feeling of vengeance presume to defile
The cause of, or men of, the Emerald Isle.

I am a self trained, travel and photography addict.
My main inspirations are places I visit and people I meet. I don’t buy photographic albums and do not spent much time analyzing work of other photographers. There are so many talented photographers and amazing photographs on the web I could virtually spend each and every single day just looking at other people’s work. But if I do that, would I have time for my own work? For me it’s a passion and obsession, addiction and therapy… it’s a very important part of my life. As to Ireland, I live here and since there are so many amazing places on this relatively small island I take every opportunity to travel around and take pictures.
I wouldn’t say landscapes are my main focus. I think I just go through different phases. There are times when I feel like going as far as possible from civilization, at others I am fascinated by people and cities where they live. If I see opportunity to take an interesting photograph I take it. It might be place, person I met or an event. I am not a typical photographer strongly attached to one kind of photography. Over the years I developed an interest in various types: landscape, photojournalism, wedding, event photography, etno-photography, portrait, artistic nude, photo manipulation and I am still exploring different styles and genres.
I guess I will keep traveling and photographing. I may try some other types of photography where I have rather limited skills and experience such as analog photography, astrophotography or underwater photography. For me photography is a journey without destination.
Emerald Isle Photography, and much more..
I both envy and praise Peter’s ability to bring Ireland much closer to us with his art. These landscapes are great representatives of this wonderful island. He himself may be unsure of where his artistic path might take him, but I sure hope that we will be able to enjoy more of Emerald Isle photography soon. If you would like to check out other Peters’s incredible photography collections you can find him on Facebook and Flickr. Finally, I would like to invite you to share your thoughts on Peter’s work in the comment section bellow.
