No, of course they are not real! They are better than real! Owen Mann creates these unique handmade ceramic succulents. This Self-taught artist and ceramic wizard works with clay, shaping it into hundreds of petals. These mesmerizing sculptures of various sizes mimic the appearance of succulents. Some of them are painted in shades of blues and greens giving them natural appearance. Some on the other hand may appear otherworldly and surreal.
I’d describe myself as a self taught sculptor whose impatience drives me to create many pieces with a uncanny hunger to improve. My sculptures are sometimes replicas of plant life I see and sometimes something I create on my own.
Inspiration comes from all around. Positive reinforcement from all of my followers is probably the best feeling I have experienced and it drives me.
I’m a purist when it comes to sculpting. Meaning I don’t use any tools other than my hands, clay and the kiln. I believe I am this way because I am self taught and I’m striving to be the best I can be with my hands, relying only on my hands. I consider myself a dying breed since so much art is made with technology nowadays. Initially I thought about making my instagram name human3dprinter but iclayflower seemed like the right choice. This isn’t likely to change either since I do not want to rely on anything else other than myself to create. Its a muscle memory thing.
I cannot really say where the future is going but I do have many ideas for new creations that run through my head on the daily. It’s safe to say floramics are forever in my future…Probably about 10,000 more. I do love birds though so we will see.
