As a designer, and art enthusiast I always try to remember the KISS acronym (Keep it simple, stupid!). Simplicity and art go hand in hand, as proven multiple times throughout history by number of people. We just love those simple shapes and contrast. It is something we can discern with just a glimpse of our eye. Bulgarian based illustrator Vasil Nedelchev started creating series of awe inspiring surreal ink drawings that will remind you of this. After years of drawing on computer and mixing digital with a bit of analog he wanted to do an experiment and go full analog. He creates these pieces using just ink and paper. This time he decided to challenge himself and work on a full series. And, boy did it ended well. Granulated texture of the paper and dark flowing ink can create entire worlds just by the slightest touch. These happy accidents are hard to manipulate making these pieces even more unique.
I am a guy who likes to draw and experiment with images.
When it comes to inspiration I guess it is Japanese aesthetics. I like the simplicity and boldness of it. That is something I strive for in my work.
I like using Japanese calligraphic ink (sumi ink) and brush on paper. It simple and bold and unpredictable when you mixed with water. It’s a good recipe for beautiful accidents.
I’m working on this surrealistic landscape faces series. And I have idea for few directions that I wanna take it and explore further.
Where to get these surreal ink drawings?
